REQUIREMENTS
Students who meet the following requirements are eligible for the Industrial Doctorate Mention in their doctoral degree:
- The requirements in article 15bis of Royal Decree 99/2011, which regulates official doctoral studies (as amended by Royal Decree 195/2016 of 13 May, by Royal Decree 43/2015 of 2 February and by Royal Decree 534/2013 of 12 July):
- The mention "Industrial Doctorate" will be awarded provided that the following circumstances are fulfilled:
- The existence of an employment or commercial contract with the doctoral student. The contract may be entered into by a company in the private or public sector, as well as by a Public Authority.
- The student must participate in an industrial research or experimental development project carried out at the company or Public Authority to which the service is provided, although this may not be a University. The industrial research or experimental development project in which the doctoral student participates must be directly related to the thesis he/she is working on. This direct relationship will be accredited by means of a report that will have to be approved by the University.
- In the event that the industrial research or experimental development project is carried out in collaboration between the University and the company or Public Authority at which the doctoral student works, a framework collaboration agreement shall be signed between the parties. This agreement will indicate the obligations of the University and the obligations of the company or Public Authority, as well as the procedure for the selection of doctoral students.
- The doctoral student will have a thesis tutor designated by the University and a superintendent designated by the company or Public Authority, who may be, where appropriate, the thesis Supervisor in accordance with the Regulations for Doctoral Studies.
- The general requirements for admission to the doctoral thesis defence process at the UCLM established in article 15 of the Regulations for Doctoral Studies (approved by the Board of Governors on 31 July 2018).
The student has worked for the company under an employment or commercial contract for at least 6 months. These six months will be included in the period between the first enrolment of the doctoral student and admission of thesis for processing.
PROCEDURE
The student will request the award of the Industrial Doctorate Mention when the doctoral thesis is admitted for processing. Optionally, once the student is registered and the possibility that it can be an industrial doctorate is detected, a special agreement can be signed between the company and the doctoral programme, which will be sent to the EID for information and filed in the student's record.
At the time of processing the deposit of the thesis, those who opt for the industrial doctorate mention must add the following documents to those required in general for admission to the thesis defence process:
- Application for accreditation of the Industrial Doctorate Mention using the official form (model available below).
- Copy of the employment or commercial contract signed with the contracting company or with a Public Authority or the candidate's employment record, showing his/her relationship with the company for a minimum period of six months, which must be included in the period between the candidate's first enrolment and the admission of the doctoral thesis for processing.
- Report describing the activities carried out in the research or experimental development project in which the doctoral candidate has participated and which accredits the direct relationship with the thesis produced. This document must be signed by the doctoral candidate, the superintendent appointed by the company (or public authority), the thesis tutor, the thesis supervisor/cosupervisor(s, and the coordinator of the academic committee of the doctoral programme.
The superintendent appointed by the company may not be a preliminary examiner nor form part of the jury that will judge the doctoral thesis, even if he/she meets the requirements for these roles.
In the event that the thesis was pursued under the auspices of an industrial research or experimental development project in collaboration between the University and the company or Public Authority at which the doctoral student works, a framework collaboration agreement will be signed between the parties according to the model established by the UCLM (Vice-Rector’s Office for Innovation, Employment and Entrepreneurship).
In any case, and when the need is detected, a specific agreement will be drawn up for each thesis of this type to be pursued in accordance with the model available below, which will be signed by the parties (company representative, programme coordinator, thesis supervisor at UCLM, superintendent at the company and doctoral student) which will be sent to the EID for information and filed in the student's record
