Engineering which defends the worst off and enables essential resources to reach the most deprived areas in order to develop them

23/07/2024

Civil engineering plays a key role in defending the most deprived areas by guaranteeing them access to essential resources such as water and energy. Some examples of these are supplying drinking water (analysis, design and construction) and managing infrastructures linked to water, such as water distribution networks (water treatment plants and wells), sewage works (essential for preventing contamination and protecting public health and the environment, and promoting sustainable development) and managing floods and droughts.

Our School participates in this field by means of different research groups, and by cooperating with different non-governmental associations and organizaciones for developmment (NGDO), such as ONGAWA, whose mission is to use technology for human development by building a fairer and more fraternal society. Some examples of this participation have been student, teaching and research staff at the School participating as NGDO volunteers both for raising awareness in Spain and in cooperative development projects in Africa and Latin America.
